About An Extra Hand

Before starting this company, I spent 11 years building roads and bridges throughout Central Indiana as a union tradesman. In 2005, I purchased my first home, and that Christmas my father-in-law gifted me my first set of power tools, probably so I would stop borrowing his. What started as projects around my own home quickly became a passion. As friends and family saw my work, they began asking for help with projects in their homes. At the time, I was working 50–60 hours a week at my union job and spending evenings and weekends doing side work. I enjoyed helping people and earning extra income, but owning a remodeling company wasn’t part of my plan.

That changed during the winter of 2015. I was laid off for the winter season when I learned about a local family facing a difficult situation. A husband had recently passed away, money was tight, and the home had a water leak, mold issues, and a child suffering from asthma. I felt compelled to help and completed the work at no charge. At that time, I had no business cards, no website, and no social media. Within weeks of helping that family, my phone began ringing with requests for work. The referrals kept coming, and I never returned to my union job that spring when the weather broke.

In the beginning, I did whatever people needed. Mulching, trimming bushes, hauling away trash, painting, power washing, handyman repairs, packing moving boxes, and even hanging Christmas lights. I was simply giving people an extra hand and that’s how our company got its name. Over the years, An Extra Hand has grown into a full-service remodeling company serving homeowners throughout Central Indiana. We’ve expanded our skills, refined our systems, built an incredible team, and remained committed to delivering quality craftsmanship and exceptional customer service.

Today, our mission remains the same as it was from the beginning: serve people well, treat every home as if it were our own, and deliver work we can be proud of. I give God all the credit for our success. To this day, I believe helping that family during the winter of 2015 opened the door for everything that followed.
